What a virtual dollar card is and who needs one
Updated: 2026-09-27
A virtual dollar card is a card number issued in US dollars that exists only in
an app. There is no plastic. For online payments that makes no difference — for
a physical terminal it makes all the difference.
What it can and cannot do
| Can | Cannot |
| Pay online anywhere Visa works | be handed to a cashier |
| Work in Apple Pay and Google Pay | dispense cash at an ATM |
| Hold a balance in dollars | replace a bank account |
| Be issued without a local bank | exist outside the app |
Who it is for
People who need to pay in dollars but cannot easily get a local bank card:
newcomers without residency, freelancers paid from abroad, anyone whose home
country card is refused by foreign services.
What to check before paying to issue one
- Where it does not work. Every issuer has a list. Read it before paying.
- The fee per purchase, not just the issuing price.
- How it is funded. Bank transfer, card, or stablecoins — that determines
how fast you can actually start.
- Whether identity verification is required. With any regulated issuer it
is, and an issuer promising otherwise is the bigger risk.
Our card
alt.vu is a dollar balance with a virtual Visa Platinum card. You top it up with
USDT or USDC on TRON, BNB Chain, Polygon or TON, and spend in US dollars anywhere Visa works online. Issuing costs $25
once, there is no monthly fee, and we add 1% on top of each purchase. Sign-up
takes about two minutes and identity is verified with a passport.
The card is virtual only and does not work inside Russia.
