How to choose a crypto card
Updated: 2026-09-27
Cards funded with stablecoins look alike on their landing pages. The
differences that matter are in four places, and none of them are on the front
page.
The four things to compare
| What | What to look for |
| Fee per purchase | typically 1–3%, charged on top of the amount |
| Top-up rate | 1:1 against the dollar, or a quiet spread |
| Networks and coins | which chains, and whether both USDT and USDC |
| Where it does not work | every issuer has a country list; it decides everything |
Prices of other providers are not quoted here on purpose: they differ by
country of residence and change often, and a wrong number would be worse than
none. Check them on each provider's own page.
Questions worth asking before you pay
1. What is the total cost of a $100 purchase, including the top-up?
2. Which networks are supported, and what happens if I use another one?
3. Is the card virtual only?
4. In which countries does it not work?
5. What identity documents are required, and from which countries are they
accepted?
A provider that answers the fourth question vaguely is the one to avoid.
Our answers to those five
alt.vu is a dollar balance with a virtual Visa Platinum card. You top it up with
USDT or USDC on TRON, BNB Chain, Polygon or TON, and spend in US dollars anywhere Visa works online. Issuing costs $25
once, there is no monthly fee, and we add 1% on top of each purchase. Sign-up
takes about two minutes and identity is verified with a passport.
The card is virtual only and does not work inside Russia.
A $100 purchase costs $101. Networks are listed above; sending on another one
loses the funds. The card is virtual only. It does not work inside Russia.
Identity is verified with a passport, and a Russian passport is accepted.
Questions and answers
Is there a card with no purchase fee
Some advertise none and take a spread on the top-up rate instead. Compare the
total cost of a purchase, not the headline.
Are cards without identity verification safe
A regulated issuer always verifies identity. One that does not is not
regulated, and your balance sits with it.
What is the cheapest option overall
A local bank card, once you have residency. Everything else exists because that
takes time.
Does your card work in Russia
No.
