A dollar card in Turkey
Updated: 2026-09-27
Card payments are standard in Turkish cities, and a local card needs a residence permit and a tax number.
What works and what does not
| Option | In shops | Online and subscriptions | What it needs |
| A card from the country you left | often no | often no | — |
| Local bank card | yes | yes | residence permit, local address |
| Foreign dollar card | phone payments | yes | passport |
| Cash | yes | no | an exchange counter and its rate |
Why dollars: the lira moves, so holding the balance in dollars protects it between the day you top up and the day you spend.
The alt.vu card in Turkey
Visa Platinum, virtual, settled in US dollars. You top the balance up with
USDT or USDC on TRON, BNB Chain, Polygon or TON. Issuing costs $25 once, there
is no monthly fee, and we add 1% on top of each purchase. Sign-up takes about
two minutes and identity is verified with a passport.
The card does not work inside Russia — it is for purchases and services
outside it.
What to keep in mind
- Keep a buffer: hotels and car rentals hold a deposit that is released later.
- Purchases are confirmed with a 3-D Secure code in the app.
- Add the card to Apple Pay or Google Pay to pay in shops.
